비플루오르화 분리막은 낮은 비용, 우수한 기계적/화학적 강도 및 높은 이온 선택성을 바탕으로 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 특히, sulfonated poly(aryl ether ketone), sulfonated poly(aryl ether sulfone) 및 sulfonated poly(imide)와 같은 비플루오르화 분리막은 이미 연료전지 분야에 검토되고 있다. 다만 RFB에 대해서는 최근에 연구가 진행되기 시작하였다.
