In the recently released trend report on the EV battery patent, SNE Research(www.sneresearch.com) provided the number of valid patent per manufacturer.
Of 4,427 cases of valid patent, LG Chem ranked the top with 757 cases (17.1%), followed by Samsung SDI with 528 cases (11.9%).
Korean lithium-ion battery makers including LG Chem and Samsung SDI are expected to take the lead in the EV battery sector, which will grow exponentially aligned with the ever-increasing popularity of green cars.

By the country of origin of an application, 1,428 cases were filed in the U.S., followed by 1,039 cases in Korea, 989 cases in Japan, and 569 cases in Europe.
Director Kim Byung-joo of SNE Research pointed out battery makers will shape the EV battery market rather than automakers as can be inferred from the analyses on EV battery patents.
